AI is reshaping
creative work.

Creators deserve
a voice in how.

Useful Arts builds the frameworks, standards, and community that help artists, designers, and creative professionals navigate and shape the age of AI.

FOR CREATORS
Artists don't know how their work is used to train AI, or how (and why and what) to disclose when they use it themselves.
FOR CONSUMERS
There is no standard way to know what's human-made, AI-assisted, or fully generated — and why it might matter to know.
FOR COMPANIES
AI use in creative work creates legal, trust, and ethical exposure  that's growing faster than frameworks to manage it.

COMMUNITY IMPACT INITIATIVES

What we're building

Four active programs at the intersection of AI, creativity, and accountability — open to contributors.

Giving creators a voice in the future of AI policy

Structured focus groups with creative communities, translating real experiences with AI into insights for policymakers, standards bodies, and other regulatory agencies and institutions.

A disclosure standard for AI in creative work

Collaboration with students, educators, and professionals to identify labeling mechanism that would support creators on claim of authorship of their work while building trust with their audiences.

A community all about creativity in the age of AI

Free Substack subscription to posts, articles, and a podcast co-hosted by Elley Cheng (Useful Arts) and Luanne Stovall (UT Austin). Conversations with artists, educators, and creatives about identity, value, and the future of creativity.

Is your current AI policy the right one?

Companies are asking whether their AI policies will actually hold, and our research shows many won't. Universities are asking how to set AI policy that protects real learning without leaving graduates unprepared for AI-supported workplaces. Wherever you sit, the work starts the same way: we assess where your policy and readiness stand today, then consult on what we find, from governance and workplace guidelines to curriculum and skill-building.
